The acclaimed Ruth Lilly Performance Hall in UIndy’s Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center will host three evenings of music this week during the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.

It’s the perfect match of event and venue. The quadrennial violin showdown — known to some as simply “the Indianapolis” — was founded in 1982 and has become one of the most respected music competitions in the world. The 500-seat Viennese-style performance space at UIndy, completed in 1994, has won praise for its superior acoustics and elegant design.

Tonight brings IVCI’s Donor Appreciation Concert featuring 2006 Gold Medalist Augustin Hadelich. Tickets are $25 for the 8 p.m. event.

Wednesday and Thursday will be the competition’s Classical Finals, with three of the six IVCI finalists performing concertos by Mozart or Haydn each night with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra under the direction of guest conductor Samuel Wong. Performances begin at 8 p.m., and tickets range from $15 to $30 for adults and $12 to $24 for students. A preconcert discussion is scheduled from 7 to 7:30 p.m. each night.
