UIndy senior Katie Stam is preparing for the next phase of her life as she approaches the end of her whirlwind year as Miss America.
Stam, a communication major who led UIndy’s student news operation to a state title, aspires to be a TV newscaster, a career to which she brings unique experience after many national talk show appearances and countless public events. Her thousands of miles of travel included appearing at the Indianapolis 500, riding in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and visiting wounded troops in U.S. and overseas hospitals, all the while spreading a message of community service.
She will crown her successor during the annual pageant, which this year takes place Jan. 30 in Las Vegas.
However, Stam is “still the same grounded person she’s always been,” her uncle told the Columbus Republic newspaper for a story that was circulated widely this week by the Associated Press.
