A fresh cohort of Chinese students from Ningbo Institute of Technology attend an English-immersion class Wednesday in Lilly Science Hall.

It’s become an annual harbinger of the approaching fall semester at UIndy: the arrival of the latest group of international students from UIndy’s joint-degree partnership with China’s Ningbo Institute of Technology.

After two years of study in their home country, more than 50 new Chinese students hit town over the weekend to begin two years of U.S. study that will complete their bachelor’s degrees in business and English. First, however, they’re undergoing a two-week orientation developed by UIndy’s International Division office to acquaint them with campus life, American culture and functioning in an English-speaking environment.

There’s some fun mixed in with those sessions on health, safety, finances, etiquette, academic expectations and other practical matters. The schedule also includes trips to downtown Indy attractions, local restaurants and even the Premium Outlets mall near Edinburgh.
