A 1998 UIndy grad was in the national spotlight today as he offered expert testimony in a high-profile Florida murder trial.

John Schultz, now an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida, was the forensic archeologist who analyzed the remains of young Caylee Anthony. Her mother, Casey Anthony, is accused of killing the then-2-year-old girl in 2008 and trying to cover up the crime.

Schultz was the very first graduate of UIndy’s master’s in human biology program, directed by Professor Stephen Nawrocki, who himself carries an international reputation as a forensic anthropologist.

“John has really distinguished himself as a leading expert in forensic archeology and the use of remote sensing technology to find buried remains,” said Nawrocki, a frequent consultant for law enforcement agencies throughout Indiana and beyond. “We’re proud of his contributions to the field and glad we were able to help him pursue his career.”

Video of Schultz’s testimony is here.
